Types of Network Topology:
There are the following types of network topologies:
Devices are connected to a long cable in this topology. The installation is for short or short broadcasts. This type of network topology is used in such places where very high-speed data communication channel is to be used in a limited area. But if the communication channel gets spoiled then the whole network gets spoiled.
Advantages of Bus Topology
- It would have been very easy to add new nodes or remove old nodes.
- If one computer fails, the entire network is not affected. But it is very difficult to find the damaged node in it.
- Its cost is very less.
Disadvantages of Bus Topology
- The entire data transfer stops due to the failure of any one computer.
- This topology works slow.
Under this topology there is a host computer, to which various local computers are directly connected. This host is called Computer Hub. Failure of this hub can lead to failure of the entire network.
Advantages of Star Topology
- If a local node computer fails, the rest of the network is not affected. In this situation, it is easy to locate the damaged node computer.
- It costs less to connect a computer to the host computer.
- Increasing the number of local computers does not affect the ability of the network to exchange information.
Disadvantages of Star Topology
- This topology is very expensive.
- The entire network stops due to the failure of the HUB.
- Its entire system depends on the host computer.
There is no hub or cable in this topology. All computers are connected by cables in the form of a circular shape. Each computer is connected to its subordinate computer. In this, if any one computer fails, the entire ring is interrupted. This circular shape is also called circular network.
Advantages of Ring Topology
- It requires a small cable.
- It is best suited for one-way data transfer across optical fibers.
Disadvantages of Ring Topology
- Its speed depends on the computer installed in the network. If there are fewer computers in the network then the speed will be high and if there are more computers in the network then the speed will be less.
- In this network, computers work in dependence on each other.
- Troubleshoot in this is very difficult to cut
Each computer in this topology is directly connected to all the other computers connected to the network. For this reason, it is also called Point-to-Point Network or Completely Connected Network. In this, every decision of data exchange is taken by the computer itself.
Advantages of Mesh Topology
- This topology is best suited for long distance networks.
- In this topology, the entire communication is not interrupted due to failure of any one computer.
Disadvantage of Mesh Topology
- The implementation of this topology is very complex.
- It is very costly.
In this topology, one node to another node and another node to third node, are connected like branches of a tree. This is called Tree Topology. Tree Topology is an extension of Star Topology. In this topology, the root node acts as a server.
Advantages of Tree Topology
- The network can be easily extended in this topology.
- This topology is best suited for the communication of hierarchical data.
Disadvantages of Tree Topology
- There is a problem in its maintenance, in which a large cable is used.
- This topology is very expensive.
- Compared to other topologies, there is a lot of trouble in laying wires and configuring it.
This topology is a combination of all types of network topologies. It is also called Special Topology. This topology is used for corporate while networks outside the Wide Area Network (WAN) are connected.
How many computer networking models are there?
There are mainly two models of computer network:
- Peer-to-Peer Network
- Client /Server Network
A network of two or more computers that use the same program for communication among themselves. It is also called P2P network.
In this, data (Audio, Video etc.) is exchanged in digital format. Computers in this network are connected to Universal Serial Bus (USB) to transfer files among themselves. All computers in this network act as both clients and servers.
Client /Server Network
Such a network, in which one computer is a server and the rest of the computer acts as a client, is called a client/server network. The client computer requests a service from the server and the server gives a proper response to that request.
It is a LAN technology, which allows computers to access the network. This network is very easy to set up and this network is the most popular and cheap network today. Information can be transferred through the Ethernet at a speed of 10 MW / s.
2. Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA):
It is a method of multiplexing that allows multiple signals to be transmitted through a signal transmission channel. Thus, better utilization of available bandwidth becomes possible. This technology is used in cellular phones with Ultra High Frequency (UHF) 800 Megahertz and 1.9 Giga Bands.
3. Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN):
It is an international telephone network carrying analog signals by copper wires. This telephone network works in the opposite way to the newer telephone networks (e.g.: ISDN and FDDI).
4. Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN):
This network uses digital or general telephone lines to transmit voice, video and data. In this, both packet and circuit switching are used.
This is such a technique, which is used to transmit signals simultaneously through a common medium.
6. Packet Switching:
This is the process of transmitting data over the network. In which the data is divided in the form of small packets. After which that data is easily accessed to the destination.
7. Circuit Switching:
In this, the data is transported through the physical route to its location. Data is transported from source to destination by a single route.
8. Wireless Local Loop (WLL)
It is a wireless communication link in which the user connects to the network through radio frequencies. It is also called fixed wireless connection. It is based on CDMA technology.
